Ayrton Senna

Desde mi primera visita a São Paulo en el 2010, me llamó la atención que una de sus carreteras poseyera el nombre “Ayrton Senna”. Hoy, 4 años más tarde, investigué sobre este hombre llenándome de sorpresas y admiración, transformándose en mi ícono brasileño favorito.

Entonces, comencemos: ¿quién era Ayrton Senna? El brasileño más exitoso de la Fórmula 1 (F-1) desde 1984 hasta 1994, año de su muerte.

Nacido el 21 de marzo de 1960, en São Paulo, este hombre logró conquistar con esfuerzo, constancia y determinación, el corazón de todos los brasileños, no tan sólo por su exitosa carrera en la F-1 sino también por el orgullo que demostraba por su nacionalidad en una época durísima para Brasil. Sumado a esto, entregaba ayuda y preocupación por la educación entregada a los sectores más vulnerables del país.

No crean que su carrera comenzó inmediatamente de forma gloriosa, fueron años de esfuerzo hasta que él lograse su objetivo. Carrera que duraría hasta el día 1 de mayo de 1994, accidentándose en una carrera de la F-1 en Imola, Italia.

Meses después de su muerte, su hermana Vivianne, llevó a cabo uno de los mayores deseos de Senna: El instituto Ayrton Senna, con el fin de ayudar y mejorar la calidad de la educación. Un sueño hecho realidad.

-         -  Si te encuentras en Brasil y entiendes el portugués, compra el libro: “Ayrton Senna, Uma lenda a toda velocidade” de Christopher Hilton (“Ayrton Senna, una leyenda a toda velocidad”)

-         -  Infórmate sobre el Instituto Ayrton Senna

-         - Al menos, averigua sobre él en Wikipedia

Probablemente encontrarán varios artículos relacionados a Senna dentro de mi blog, ya que personalmente considero notable el poder que aún tiene su nombre.

Para finalizar, citolo que una vez me dijo una amiga brasileña: “Hay 2 cosas que le puedes preguntar a un brasileño: 1. ¿Dónde estabas cuando ocurrió el ataque de las Torres Gemelas? Y 2. ¿Dónde estabas cuando ocurrió el accidente de Ayrton Senna?, todos tendrán una respuesta para eso”.

Since my first visit to São Paulo in 2010, I saw that one of their highways were called “Ayrton Senna”. Today, after 4 years from that, I started investigating about that man, and I´m glad to say that it filled with surprise and admiration, becoming my favorite Brazilian icon.

So…Let´s start: who was Ayrton Senna? The most successful Brazilian pilot of the F-1 since 1984 until 1994, year of his death.

Born on 21^st March of 1960, in São Paulo, this man conquered with effort, perseverance and determination the heart of all the Brazilian people, not just because of his successful career, but the pride he demonstrated about his nationality in a difficult period for Brazil. Moreover, he helped and had a real concerned about the education gave to the most vulnerable sector of his country.

Don´t think that his career started immediately glorious, there were years of hard effort until he reached his target. Career that lasted until 1^st May of 1994, where he had and accident during a F-1 race in Imola, Italy.

Months after his death, his sister Vivianne, fulfilled his greatest wish: The  Ayrton Senna Institute, created to help and improve the education for the children from Brazil. A dream come true.

-        -   At least, read something in Wikipedia

Probably you´ll find many of my posts related to Senna, it´s just that I think it´s crazy the power that his name still have.

Finally, I want to quote something that one of my Brazilian friends told me: “There are 2 things that you can ask to any Brazilian: 1. Where were you when the 9-11 attack occurred? and 2.Where were you when Senna´s accident occurred? Everybody will have an answer for them”

Los Brasileños / Brazilian People

Con todo este tema de la “Copa 2014”, muchos extranjeros han tenido la oportunidad de conocer la cultura brasileña, la belleza exterior e interior de su población. Por eso he decidido enumerar en 10, lo que he podido percibir de ellos y definitivamente me fascina.

1. Tienen una alegría constante y ganas enormes de sociabilizar. Siempre te harás amigo de uno de ellos.

2. Adoran a los extranjeros, por ello es que tienen disposición absoluta para tratar de comprenderte y ayudarte en lo que necesites.

3. Cuando se trata de fútbol, las personas se transforman en una sola.

4. Siempre que entras a algún lugar te preguntan: “Oi, tudo bem?”. Prueba respondiendo: “Tudo e você?”, verás que se amabilidad (ya existente) se multiplicará por infinito.

5. Muchos de sus bares tienen banda en vivo. A l@s brasileñ@s les encanta corear las canciones y bailar alrededor de la mesa.

6. Nunca dicen que no.

7. Son optimistas frente a la vida y sus problemáticas. Si estás en Brasil en este minuto, pregúntale a alguno de ellos quién cree que ganará la Copa (probablemente si le comentas que crees que Brasil ganará, te responderán: “Los equipos que se mantienen hasta ahora son muy buenos, ganará el que realmente lo merece”)

8. Se interesan por conocer la vida de otras personas, sea brasileñ@ o extranjero.

9. La familia es prioridad.

10.Esta es la última y mi favorita: No importa si estás en la calle, en un shopping center o en un bar…siempre alguien te entrega una sonrisa. Sonríe de vuelta, tu día cambiará.

Ahora, bebe un Caipirinha y transfórmate en uno de ellos!

With all this things about the “World  Cup 2014”, a lot of foreigners have had the chance to meet the Brazilian culture, the external and internal beauty of its people. That´s why I have decided to list 10 things that I definitely love about them.

1. They are constantly happy and outgoing. You will always meet a new friend among them.

2. They love foreigners, that is why they are always doing whatever is possible to understand and help us.

3. When something is about football, they become ONE.

4. When you come into a place they always ask: “Oi, tudo bem?”. Try answering: “Tudo, e você?”, you´ll see that their kindness will multiply by infinite.

5. Many of their bars have a live band playing some Brazilian music. Brazilians love to sing along and dance around the table.

6. They never say no.

7. They are optimistic about life and its problems. If you are currently in Brazil, ask one of them what team they think it will win de World Cup (probably if you say Brazil will win, they´ll answer: “The teams that have maintained until now are very good, it will win who ever deserves it”.)

8. They get interested in knowing about others people life, Brazilian or foreigners.

9. Family is their priority.

10. And this last and my favorite one: It doesn´t matter if you are walking on the street, or in a shopping center or simply sitted in a bar…someone will always give you a smile. Smile them back and your day will change.

Now, drink a Caipirinha and be part of this amazing culture!

Después de pensar muchísimos títulos para este blog, finalmente me he decidido por uno: “Brazilian Love”.

Quiero compartir con ustedes, mis lectores, los mejor y lo “unknown” de Brasil, en especial de São Paulo.

Disfruten conmigo la cultura brasilera, su gente, lengua, lugares, libros, artículos, comida, productos, etc, con tips e información que muchos no se dan el tiempo de averiguar.
